The Large and the Small

Although my favourite part of papercrafting is making card sets, making containers of any kind is a very close second. I'm always amazed at the beautiful products we can create with Stampin' Up! supplies. I mean some people used to think blueberries originally came from grocery stores, well I used to think boxes and containers only came from department stores!

Imagine my delight when I started making my own!

So today I want to show you two containers/bags/purses that I made over the weekend:

The large bag on the left can hold up to 20 cards and envelopes and has a little pocket on the front. I found the tutorial for this bag on Lynn Pratt's blog and you can purchase it here.

The smaller purse is perfect for little gifts - bracelets, chocolate, single stamps, etc. I found it on Selene Kempton's blog and you can purchase the template here.

There is just something so satisfying about creating something with your own hands!

Crayon to Stamp Watercolouring

This is one of my favourite looks in watercolouring, although it takes a bit of practice. For this card I used the Just Believe stamp set for the image and Something to Celebrate (Occasions Mini Hostess Level Two) for the sentiment.

The cardstock is Always Artichoke, Pretty in Pink and Whisper White. The DSP is Pretty in Pink from the Subtles Pack.

For this technique you use the Watercolour Wonder Crayons and colour the stamp. I used Old Olive for the grass and Always Artichoke for the flower stems and leaves. I coloured the flowers with Pretty in Pink and then coloured the centres with Regal Rose - right on top of the Pretty in Pink.

Then using a small, fine, misting bottle lightly spray the coloured stamp. Too much water and the image will just be a muddy mess. Too little and you will get gaps in your image. If the mist is too heavy you will have major blotches. Just keep trying.

You will never get the same result twice but it does give a lovely ephemeral finished product. The biggest difference between this and a regular ink stamping is that there are no lines - look again - it gives the impression of being hand painted. I really like that style - it almost makes me not notice how crooked the card stock is under the sentiment!!

Super Duper "Sew Suite" Treat Box

Last weekend I attended a class at Maree's - you've seen her wonderful creations on my blog before. Well this time she outdid even herself with this wonderful set. It uses the Sew Suite stamp set, and the Sweet Stitches DSP from the Occasions Mini along with Pattern Pieces single stamp and the Sweet Stitches Fabric Designer Brads.  Lookie:

Greenhouse Gala Gift Set

This set was inspired by a project from "UStamp with Dawn & Friends". I changed a little bit of everything but the main theme is still there.

The DSP is Greenhouse Gala and the stamp set is Punch Potpourri, a Level One Hostess set found in the Idea Book & Catalogue.

The set includes six cards, 10 assorted sentiments, DSP decorated envelopes, and a 'matchbox' for treats.

 

I really like this colour combination Pear Pizazz, Baja Breeze and Chocolate Chip. And it was quick and fun to put the cards together using the punches - Two Step Extra Large Bird punch, Butterfly Extra Large punch, Full Heart Extra Large punch, and the Boho Blossoms Extra Large punch.

What's New Pussycat?

This is a card I made for our Cat Sitter. My best furry buddy is Max, a brown tabby, who is never more than six feet away from me at any given time, and if my feet are up he's on my lap. He gives me lots of love and joy and I try to do the same for him.

We were on vacation last month and we had to leave Max at home. Fortunately our cat sitter is a wonderful lady who loves Max almost as much as I do! When I saw this tabby stamp I couldn't resist, it looks just like Max.

Ice Cream Parlour Mobile

I've had this project in my head ever since I got the Petal Cone die in the Occasions Mini, and today I got to complete it. Ta Da!

Once I started working on it everything came together. I used the Ice Cream Parlour DSP from the Sale-a-Bration catalogue (you still have time - March 31, 2011!). The Designer Paper was great plus there are two 12x12 sheets of self adhesive coordinating die cuts to use to decorate the carousel top and the solid butterflies.

I used the Beautiful Wings Embosslit for the butterflies on the top, along with the Ice Cream Parlour ribbon and the Daffodil Delight Pom Pom Trim:

The larger butterflies are from the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz die, and the cord is a sneak peek from the upcoming Summer Mini (shhh! don't tell!):

I attached everything with glue dots - after trying ribbons and thread and brads and bows... At the top of each cord on the inside of the carousel top I added a large rhinestone so that it would twinkle like stars.

New Sympathy Stamp Set

Linda used the new sympathy set found in the Occasions Mini Catalogue, titled Thanks for Caring. This is a versatile set with four sentiments plus two images.

By using the 2 3/8" scallop punch and the 2 1/2" circle punch Linda has added emphasis to the sentiment. 

Texture is added with the Elegant Bouquet Embossing Folder, layering the cardstock, and silver brads. Thanks for another beautiful card Linda!

Sympathy Card using Hostess Set

You can create a beautiful sympathy card even if you don't have a specific sympathy stamp set. Sandi did just that with our last swap. She used the Level One Hostess set Because I Care to create this special card:



Even though we could only use Black, Silver, and White, this card is full of interest with textures, sparkle, and quiet elegance. Thanks for showing us how to do it Sandi!

Team Swap: Sympathy

 The theme for our Atlantic Stampers Ink monthly card swap is Sympathy using Black, White, and Silver. Several of our clients have requested classes to create a collection of sympathy cards so we thought this would be a good way to get ideas.

I'm sharing my card today, and it is very quick and easy to make:

The card base is Basic Black, the top layer is Whisper White, and the ink is Basic Gray - my interpretation of 'silver'.

The stamp sets used as Thoughts and Prayers for the sentiment, and Vintage Vogue for the scroll design.

I've even tucked in a few of our diamonds to give it extra interest. The punch used is the Pinking Hearts Border and it 'makes' this card. It's a design I found on Patty Bennett's blog when the punch first came out. Hope you like it.

This Really "Suits" Him

Dean is one of my sons-in-law. He is very smart, talented, and works long hours in an office setting. And he looks classy in his suits. So I thought this card would be appropriate for him on his birthday this month:

Stamp and Punch, it's so much fun!

When you have a co-ordinating stamp set and punch like these two, it's hard to stop stamping and punching! Here is another card in those beautiful colours of Peach Parfait, Poppy Parade, Crumb Cake, and Whisper White:

I had a hard time with this card at first. Not because the directions weren't clear, but because I couldn't get 'out of the box' when I was thinking how a card should be made. In my mind a card should open from a side fold or a top fold. But this card wasn't behaving - until I realized my mistake. It has a bottom fold and opens like this:

Kind of different and really interesting! The bottom slips under the cupcake (hiding the "Happy Birthday" sentiment until opened). The ribbon holds it secure.
